Local LawsPittsburghThe following is the law in Pittsburgh: 419.11 PROHIBITING SKATEBOARDS, ROLLER SKATES, SKOOTERS AND BICYCLES ON SIDEWALKS IN BUSINESS DISTRICTS. PennsylvaniaPA State law gives the police the authority to regulate the use of the road by motor vehicles, bikes, skates, coasters, sleds, and other toy vehicles (see PA Vehicle Code Chapter 61 for more information). This means that you must obey police officers even if what they are telling you may be wrong or you believe it to be wrong. You can quote the law to the officer but digression is always given to the officer. Other Municipalities (Local):We are currently looking for more information for this section - if you know of any laws in your area that affect skaters please send them our way. Thank you!
Other Municipalities (National):Many parts of the country have laws that affect skaters. Some municipalities go so far as to totally outlaw skating. Be aware of the laws where you are when you travel. Though street skating may be perfectly legal in certain cities, areas within those cities might have a different set of laws. A good example of this is Millennium Park in Chicago which does not allow skaters. Other cities are thinking of outlawing group skating - New York City has a proposal to ban group skates through forcing them to get a parade permit. Clearly the laws about skating are as diverse as the laws about everything else. The best rule to follow when skating in a different city is to find out in advance what the laws are. Happy skating! At this time we are working on this section, if you know of the laws in any other areas please send them our way.
