Find Your Fit

Find a skate that works for you. Sometimes even a person that has skated for years but been a way from it for a while needs to take it slow. All TRIC skates are social events - though many involve serious physical activity. If you are not fit enough for a particular skate please work you way up to that level. Ask if any other skaters are skating independent of an official planned skate. Do not hurt yourself - we skate for fun and fitness, if you are injured you cannot have either. If you ever feel that you've over-exerted yourself during a skate please immediately let a skate patroller know. If you want to leave the skate at any time please let a patroller know so they may assist you in returning safely to the start/end point. Always remember - we skate to have fun - please let a patroller/skate leader know if there is anything is wrong with your skates, with you ability to continue, or with anyone around you making your skating less safe or less enjoyable.

Safety First

As always - you must wear a helmet and wrist guards to skate in any TRIC skate - we also recommend knee and elbow pads. If you'd like to skate with TRIC and do not own safety equipment please come to the skate and ask a skate patroller - they will be happy to help as at most skates there are people with extra gear. Make sure that you have a good brake that will last the entire skate and always maintain control of your speed and be aware of your environment.

Late and early in the skate season there will be times when we skate at and after dusk. We ask that you bring "blinky" lights with you and wear light colored clothes or clothes with reflective material to make yourself more visible.

Sunrise/Sunset

Check out the following site to find out when the sun will rise or set in Pittsburgh

Why would you want to know this?
A lot of TRIC skates take place at dusk - you should wear blinking lights after dark and this site will tell you if you should bring them along on a particular skate.

Happy Skating!
