Team TRIC Mission

Team TRIC is a group of skaters who practice together and share information with each other and the whole TRIC organization in regards to all things speed skating related. We want to encourage and teach people to skate faster with better technique and most of all safely and under control at all times. There are many reasons people are interested in “Speed Skating”. First of all its fun and incredibly thrilling to skate at high speed in a pack. Some of our members are racers and travel to NYC, Atlanta, Long Beach and other cities to participate in races, some are into the extra fitness level speed skating provides and many just want to learn to be able to skate farther and faster more easily. If you want to take your skating to the next level, come out and skate with us and we’ll gladly pass along what we’ve learned!!

 Team TRIC Weekly Skates

TEAM TRIC has 2 scheduled weekly skates on Tues and Thurs evenings along with frequent informal skates at other times.

  • Tuesday Advanced Speed Skating: Meets on Tuesday at 6:30 pm in the parking lot at Greenfield end of the jail trail. During the roughly 5 mile trip out and back on the trail we practice pace line skating with frequent lead changes. The pack often splits between groups of fast and very fast packs with everyone grouping up again at the trail end. We usually do 3-4 laps of different intensities with the entire practice running about 1.5 to 2 hours. This is an advanced skate for skaters who have some speed skating experience and high fitness level.
  • Beginner to Advanced Speed Skating Clinic: Meets on Thursdays at 7pm at the Washington Blvd Oval. This skate is for Beginners and Intermediates who want to learn and practice technique on the ½ mile long oval. First we have a short Demo on proper form, body position, stopping techniques without a brake and speed skater etiquette. Then the speed skaters help fine tune your technique as we practice skating in the parking lot. When everyone is comfortable with what we’ve shown we head out to the track to put our new skills into action. We usually start slow and practice pace lines, how to move in and out of a pack and proper distance between skaters. Then we often do interval laps or multiple laps to build strength and endurance. Since its an oval you can’t be left behind, if you need a break just stop and rejoin when we come back around. We often finish practice with balancing exercises using cones in the parking lot, teaching cross overs or a short friendly 2 team relay race so everyone can participate and feel the thrill of a little competition.
